Environmental management company, Walsh Waste ltd have begun accepting waste and recycling loads into their new Material Recovery Facility located in Deerpark industrial estate, Oranmore. The company received approval from An Board Pleanala to build the recycling facility last July and over the past 10 months have being re-designing and modifying the building. The former cement batching plant has being converted into a state of the art recycling facility. The facility contains designated segregation bays, recycling plant equipment and machinery used to sort the various waste streams that enter the site from the company’s large commercial waste customer base across Connacht.
The facility will ultimately recover, process and recycle over 90% of waste delivered to the site. It will have its own custom built processing technology with an automated waste sorting plant fitted in the coming weeks. The recycling plant which is under construction off site will be installed at the transfer station complete with a trommell, screens, magnets and conveyors, which will allow the material to be directed to the correct sorting line.
Commenting on the facility, Managing Director Gerard Walsh said “the relocation of the waste transfer station to the purpose built operation in Oranmore has led to greater waste handling efficiency, and will ultimately increase our ability to recycle more and enables our customers to rest assured that their waste is being recovered and recycled wherever possible, with the waste hierarchy being considered at all times”
Walsh Waste ltd is Galway’s only locally owned and managed waste recycling company and continue to invest in their people, process and operations. Since the company acquired the former Goode Concrete two acre site in 2013 it was used temporarily as a container storage and maintenance garage. The fleet maintenance has relocated into the adjacent building also purchased by the company in April 2015. This represents a total investment of over €2 million by Walsh Waste into its facilities. This strategic investment will facilitate the company’s long term growths plans which has led to the creation of 15 additional positions across all areas of the business.
