It’s been a busy October for us here at Walsh Waste, here’s what we got up to… 

Anniversary Celebrations

We celebrated 50 years in business!

50 years ago, in 1972, a young Clem Walsh visited his brother PJ in America, and considered how the large ‘dumpsters’ could be incorporated into the existing Walsh Crane Hire business at home. Many strategic decisions later, his vision proves successful, as Walsh Waste now offers a range of waste solutions to domestic and commercial markets in Galway.

Over the previous weeks, we have been documenting the growth of Walsh Waste on our social media.We celebrated the significant milestone at the Meadow Court Hotel, Loughrea, on Saturday the 15^th of October, joined by some staff, customers, suppliers, family, and friends.

The Meadow Court is one of Walsh Waste’s longest customers, so it was a very special evening for all involved. 

  New Trucks (and Old!)

This month also saw some new, and old, additions to our fleet.

The new Mercedes-Benz Econic 2630L ENA will be collecting commercial recycling bins in Galway City. The truck features a low-entry cab and folding doors that can be opened with a button, making it easier for our drivers to regularly enter and exit the vehicle.

The registration plate reads ‘222-G-50’ to commemorate 50 years! 

We also collected our Volvo FH13 500 from Murphy Commercials. This will be used for hauling waste from our facility to waste-to-energy sites. 

Finally, we had an old Commer truck remodelled by Barry Quinn to replicate the first Walsh Waste skip truck, coupled with an old-style skip.The old slogan on the door of the truck reads “At Your Convenience Not Ours”, which still proves true today.The biggest question was “can it still drive?”, and yes it can! After driving the truck, Gearoid Walsh stated he forgot how difficult the old trucks were to drive, without the modern luxury of power-steering.
