Frequently Asked Questions

How often should a Septic Tank / Treatment Plant be emptied?

The EPA recommend that septic tanks / treatment plants need to be emptied every 1 to 2 years, depending on tank size, number of people using the system, manufacturers requirements and the amount and type of solids entering the tank.

What does the Service consist of?

We carry out the following as part of our service

  • Empty completely and clean your Septic Tank / Treatment System
  • Clean pipes between house and Septic Tank using high pressure water jetting system
  • Dispose of sludge from the tank to a Local Authority Wastewater Treatment Plant
  • Issue a Treatment Certificate to the householder

Where is the tank located?

Most septic tanks are located about 8 – 10 meters out from the house. Look for a manhole cover or vent pipes (pipes that stick up about 1 to 2 feet above ground).

I cannot locate the manhole cover. Can the Septic tank be emptied through the vent pipe?

No, the septic tank cannot be emptied properly thought the vent pipes. If the tank is emptied through the vent pipe it is not possible to take out the sludge from the bottom of the tank which is the main purpose of emptying the tank. Often times the manhole cover is covered over by grass. You will need to expose the manhole cover so the  septic tank can be emptied properly.

How far away from the house can the tank be for it to be emptied?

The septic tank should ideally be located within 30 m (100 feet) of where the truck can park. If the tank is further away than 30 m this is not a problem as once we are notified of this the driver can bring extra hose.

I don’t have a long measuring tape. How do I know how far away the septic tank is from where the truck can park?

An easy way to measure the distance is to step it out. One large step is approximately 1 m

What sort of access do I need for the truck?

The truck is the equivalent size to an oil delivery truck that delivers home heating oil. If you have access for an oil truck you have enough access for Walsh Waste.

We empty every type of treatment plant or septic plants including the following: Klargester, Puraflo, Biocycle, Envirocare, and many more. If your make is not on the list, don’t worry, we can empty it.
